1 arrested, 1 hospitalized after Fort Myers pursuit-crash with trees
FORT MYERS, FL – A driver was arrested, and their car passenger was hospitalized following a pursuit that ended when the driver crashed into a tree line Saturday.
Florida Highway Patrol told Wink News that the events unfolded when FHP tried to stop the driver, who was identified as Frank Edward Tatum of Lehigh Acres, at SR 82 and Michigan Avenue. Tatum pulled over but then drove away, initiating the pursuit.
Tatum continued to flee and later crashed into several trees at the I-75 South and SR 82 (also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard). Upon colliding with the trees, he attempted to flee the scene on foot before being apprehended.
Troopers arrested Tatum for “fleeing, eluding and drug possession,” and medics took his passenger to Gulf Coast Medical Center for treatment of minor wounds.
