1 critically hurt, 1 killed in crash with pole in Lakeland

LAKELAND, FL – An 18-year-old man died, and another 18-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital for critical injuries after the driver of a 2008 Nissan 305Z struck a pole Sunday.

Click Orlando said this fatal wreck happened at County Road 540A and Quail Ridge Drive when the driver traveled at a high rate, lost control of his vehicle, and left the road before hitting the pole. As a result, the 18-year-old men were thrown from their car.

Despite wearing a seatbelt, the driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear if the passenger wore a seatbelt.
