1 dead, 1 left seriously hurt following crash at Punta Gorda intersection
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL – A 70-year-old man lost his life last Friday afternoon, July 19, as a result of a two-vehicle collision in Punta Gorda that left another person seriously injured, reports WINK.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the fatal wreck took place in the area of Burnt Store Road and Notre Dame Boulevard. Troopers joined Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Services at the scene shortly after 1:39 p.m.
A press release from the agency indicates one sedan was heading northbound in the right lane of Burnt Store Road when it approached Notre Dame Boulevard. The 70-year-old man was driving the second sedan and going southbound on Burnt Store Road. He was using the left-turn lane to travel eastbound on Notre Dame Boulevard when its front-right side was hit by the first sedan.
The impact of the crash caused the first sedan to flip upside-down in a nearby ditch. One person from the overturned vehicle was rushed to Gulf Coast Medical Center for major injuries.
The 70-year-old man, who was ejected from his sedan during the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
