1 killed, 1 hospitalized after auto-pedestrian wreck in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – One woman succumbed to fatal wounds, and another was hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle while walking with a dog in the Hyde Park area Monday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News the collision happened on Hanson Drive North. There was no side-walk, so the women, in their 70s, were walking on the side of the main road, the sergeant added.
The woman who survived was sent to the hospital for life-threatening wounds, and officials made no indication of physical harm to the dog.
Authorities started an investigation and have very little details at this time, but did confirm the driver, a 20-year-old man, did not operate his phone and was not impaired at the time of the crash.
The driver was not arrested, and as it stands, no citations or criminal charges were pursued against the driver.
No other information, including the deceased woman’s name, has been mentioned at this time.
