1 killed in SUV vs. pedestrian crash in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A pedestrian was killed after getting hit by an SUV driver in the area of Collins Road and Pheasant Run Road before 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

The pedestrian (who was only identified as a man in his 40s) was struck when he tried to cross two lanes to reach the center without using the crosswalk, WOKV reported. The man was shortly hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the man was using his mobile phone while trying to cross. The SUV driver remained at the scene and was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs/ alcohol or speeding.
