2 dead after vehicle slams into pole at Lake City intersection
COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL – Two people died Thursday afternoon, January 2, due to a single-vehicle wreck off Southwest Baya Drive in Lake City, reports First Coast News.
The double-fatal crash happened near the intersection with Southeast Perry Avenue, at about 3:16 p.m.
According to a release from the Lake City Police Department, a 51-year-old man was driving eastbound on Southwest Baya Drive when, for reasons still unclear, he appeared to lose control of the vehicle, causing it to travel onto the sidewalk and hit a utility pole.
The driver and his passenger, a 49-year-old woman, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. They have since been identified as a couple.
