2 hospitalized after Jacksonville crash with alleged drunk driver
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A mother and her 3-year-old daughter were sent to the hospital after they were struck by a driver suspected of driving under the influence Friday.
Action News Jax Now said this collision occurred on Monument Road when the mom – Libby Ajavon – stopped completely at a stop sign and checked for traffic when she was struck by the alleged drunk driver. The impact caused Ajavon’s car to spin uncontrollably.
The driver who hit Ajavon and her daughter was identified as 78-year-old Laroy Gordon Slappey. Gordon faces several charges, including traveling on the wrong side of the lane or road and driving under the influence.
Ajavon was released and has to be confined to a wheelchair for now while her daughter is still in the hospital.
