2 hurt in Altamonte Springs hit-and-run crash; driver arrested
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – A man was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash on I-4 after 9 a.m. Thursday.
A driver of a RAM 1500 pickup truck did an improper lane change and went right in front of a Ford Transit van, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
The van itself then went in front of an SUV. The van sustained damage on its rear left. The impact caused the SUV to overturn multiple times, seriously injuring the SUV driver in the process.
The SUV driver was taken to a hospital for serious injuries, while the driver of the van sustained minor injuries.
Officials said that according to an eyewitness (the van driver), the driver of the first vehicle, who was later identified as 38-year-old Antoine Burnett, fled the scene. Before leaving the crash, the witness said that Burnett drove dangerously at a high rate and made improper lane changes before cutting off the van driver. The van driver said Burnett purposely slammed on the brakes, which led to the collision.
A Seminole County deputy later saw Burnett speeding in his pickup truck and pulled him over. The official realized Burnett’s vehicle correlated with the description of the automobile responsible for the I-4 crash. As a result, the deputy arrested Burnett.
Burnett’s charges include “a felony hit-and-run, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.”
