2 women hurt, 2 men dead after Sarasota hit-and-run crash
SARASOTA, FL – Two lives were claimed in a suspected DUI crash on I-75 South after 7 p.m. Saturday.
According to ABC Action News, a sedan driver, later identified as 59-year-old Donald Leif Johnsen, drifted off the lane he traveled in and swerved to the left side, hitting a pickup truck in the process.
Johnsen left the scene after the collision and was later found. “He was arrested and charged with two counts each of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and DUI manslaughter,” the source revealed.
The impact of the crash caused the pickup truck to gyrate, go into a grass shoulder, and flip over, throwing two back seat passengers, a 50-year-old man from Lowell, Indiana, and a 64-year-old man from North Port, from the vehicle.
The man from Indiana was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The North Port man gave in to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both did not wear their seatbelts.
The driver, a 64-year-old woman from North Port, and the front seat passenger, a 41-year-old woman, were hospitalized for severe injuries.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
