3 hospitalized after crash caused by rain, distracted driving in Miami
MIAMI, FL – Rainy conditions and distracted driving were contributing factors that led to a three-vehicle crash that sent three people to the hospital Monday.
Just prior to the collision, a driver with an attached flatbed trailer was hauling some heavy machinery. For reasons unclear, that machine then caught on fire, according to WSMW.
Fire crews had to separate the machine from the trailer. After conducting the separation, firefighters and rainy conditions put an end to the fire, with smoke permeating the air afterward. The three drivers on the road then got distracted by the smoke and the machinery to the side, leading one car to skid across the road and strike two other vehicles.
Florida Highway Patrol, who were among the first responders, said two drivers were hospitalized for minor wounds, while the third was sent to a trauma center, with their condition unspecified.
At the time of the reporting, delays were anticipated on the southbound lanes as the investigation continued. Three lanes have reopened since.
