3 hospitalized after head-on collision involving fleeing vehicle in Cape Coral
LEE COUNTY, FL – Three people were injured, one seriously, late Tuesday afternoon when a Florida Highway Patrol pursuit led to a head-on crash in Cape Coral, according to FOX 4 Now.
The wreck occurred at the intersection of Hibiscus Drive and Pondella Road shortly before 5:00 p.m.
FHP officials said troopers were following a reckless driver in a Ford sedan who had failed to make a stop in the area of State Route 78 (Pine Island Road) and Judd Creek Boulevard. At one point, the car was able to evade authorities by going through a Walmart parking lot. Shortly after leaving the lot and entering southbound Hibiscus Drive, the sedan ran a stop sign at Pondella Road, where it was struck head-on by a westbound Kia.
The driver of the Ford, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to Gulf Coast Hospital, while their passenger, along with the driver of the Kia, were taken to Cape Coral Hospital for injuries considered non-life-threatening.
Part of Hibiscus Drive was blocked in both directions during the emergency response.
