3 hurt in multi-vehicle wreck in Seffner caused by wrong-way driver
SEFFNER, FL – Three people were sent to the hospital Friday after a suspected drunk driver traveling the wrong way on I-4 set off a chain-reaction crash.
The five-vehicle collision started before 3:45 a.m. when a driver headed east on westbound I-4 struck a Mercedes-Benz traveling in a middle lane near North Kingsway Road, according to WFLA.
The driver of a pickup truck traveling behind the Mercedes braked to avoid hitting the wreck but was instead rear-ended in turn by a flatbed truck. The pickup spun out onto a shoulder and hit a tractor-trailer parked there.
The impact of the collision caused the flatbed truck to overturn, trapping the driver in the wreckage.
Three of the drivers involved in this multi-vehicle wreck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were sent to area hospitals for treatment.
Troopers identified the wrong-way driver as Arda Sengun, 22.
Sengun had a BAC over twice the legal limit and was arrested for driving under the influence with serious bodily injury.
