31-year-old Orlando man killed in box truck accident on I-95 in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A morning crash in St. Johns County killed a passenger in a box truck and caused traffic backups for several hours on Tuesday.
According to WOKV, the crash occurred on I-95 just north of Racetrack Road at 4:19 a.m. According to Florida Highway Patrol, a semi truck was merging onto I-95 northbound from the outside shoulder as a box truck was approaching. The driver of the box truck, a 22-year-old man from Jacksonville, rear-ended the semi tractor trailer.
A 31-year-old man from Orlando, who was a passenger in the box truck, died as a result of the crash. The driver of the box truck was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the semi truck, a 36-year-old man from Homestead, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The crash caused significant traffic delays for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
