5 killed in head-on crash with 3 vehicles in Wimauma
WIMAUMA, FL – Five people lost their lives on Sunday when a Toyota Tacoma driver went into the wrong lanes on SR-674, resulting in a head-on crash involving two other vehicles.
WTSP said this collision happened around 7 a.m. when the Toyota Tacoma motorist — a 29-year-old man — for reasons unclear, went from the westbound lanes to the eastbound ones. He struck the Chevy Silverado pickup truck head-on.
A Chevy S-10 motorist behind the Silverado tried to avoid the initial crash by steering to the left. However, the Chevy S-10 motorist had hit debris from the collision and crashed into a ditch. The motorist was unharmed. One occupant from the Silverado was also spared from harm.
The 29-year-old man, and the Chevy Silverado driver (a 42-year-old man), and three Tacoma passengers — a 23-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman, and a 38-year-old man — all were declared dead at the scene.
A 40-year-old man from the Silverado passenger had suffered serious injuries as a result.
At this time, it is unclear if impairment, speed, or distracted driving were contributing factors in this wreck. Updates will be provided should they become available.
