7 hurt in I-75 multi-vehicle wreck near SR 60 in Tampa

TAMPA, FL – Seven people suffered injuries after a collision on I-75 South near State Road 60 Wednesday, ABC Action News revealed. 

The crash began when a driver of a white Toyota went off I-75 and collided with a painted divider between I-75 and the interstate’s off-ramp leading to U.S. Highway 307. The driver crashed and re-entered I-75. 

Shortly after, an Amazon semi-truck driver saw the Toyota driver and swerved to avoid hitting the Toyota. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, and the big rig driver rear-ended the Toyota. The impact caused the Toyota driver to rotate clockwise before coming to rest, and the truck driver struck a concrete traffic barrier. 

Just as the Amazon truck driver tried to avoid hitting the Toyota, the driver of a black Ford pickup truck swerved and attempted to avoid striking the Amazon truck. This attempt was unsuccessful, and the Ford driver then hit a painted divider and came into contact with debris from the guard that came from the initial crash. 

Three more motorists collided when one did not stop in time and crashed into the first two vehicles. 

Six of the occupants sustained non-life-threatening wounds, and one suffered serious injuries. 

Officials shut down the interstate’s southbound lanes for several hours. However, they have reopened since.
