2 dead after speeding driver crashes into sign in Florida City
FLORIDA CITY, FL – A sideswipe crash between a Chevy pickup truck and a Honda sedan left two people dead Saturday.
In a report from WSVN, video footage indicated that the driver of the Chevy traveled at a high rate on U.S. 1 and collided with a Quality Inn Florida City – Gateway to the Keys sign. The Honda sedan came to a stop.
One of the vehicles had supposedly gone over a sidewalk and came onto the grass, before colliding with Denny’s pole, according to an eyewitness. The bystander, Justin Kwiatkowski, rushed to the aid of the Chevy pickup truck to see if they were conscious. Medics then performed life-saving procedures on the man and woman from the vehicle. However, they suffered fatal injuries.
It is unclear if the driver of the Honda was hurt or taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 1 closed but have reopened since.
Updates will be posted when they become available.
