Driver runs red light, injures 2, plus officer, in Miami Gardens crash
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A driver of a black Dodge ran a red light and collided with a Miami Gardens patrol car, which led two occupants and the officer to suffer injuries Tuesday.
Local 10 said this collision happened before 2:45 a.m. at the Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 167th Street junction.
Miami Gardens Police told the source that the Dodge driver was traveling west on 167th while the officer was going south on 27th Ave. It is unclear if the Dodge motorist was speeding, but running the red light did play a significant part in the crash. Footage showed significant front-end damage done to the marked white Ford Explorer police SUV when the force of the collision led the officer to crash into some exterior walls.
The officer, along with two others, were flown via a helicopter operated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital.
The two others remain in critical condition, while the officer appears to be in stable condition as he was deemed “OK.”
Officials did launch an investigation and have not provided other details at this time.
