Adult, 11-year-old girl hospitalized after pursuit-crash in St. Pete
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A Mercedes SUV driver was fleeing from officers and ran a red light, striking a minivan, sending an 11-year-old girl and the minivan driver to a hospital.
Prior to Monday morning’s crash, which happened around 9 a.m., a St. Petersburg Police officer tried to pull over the SUV driver on 1st Avenue, ABC Action News said. The motorist, a 19-year-old man, refused and continued driving away. When the person proceeded through the red light on 31st Street South, that’s when the collision happened.
It is unclear if the Mercedes driver, AJaye Morrer, was hurt. However, officers did arrest him, and authorities did confirm he was charged with “2 counts of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury and a count of aggravated fleeing and eluding.”
There is not an official update on the girl and minivan driver. It appears they are still recovering at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital.
