1 hurt after ejecting from Tesla during crash near Sunshine Skyway in St. Petersburg
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – A 25-year-old man was hospitalized after being ejected during a crash Wednesday afternoon in St. Petersburg, according to Tampa Bay Times.
The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 approaching the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, at about 12:30 p.m.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the man was driving a Tesla southbound when he appeared to lose control of the car, causing it to run off the roadway and onto the shoulder before it hit a drainage pond and rolled into nearby mangroves.
The victim, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the vehicle and thrown into the body of water. He was subsequently rescued by a passing boater when brought him to the boat ramp at Maximo Park. First responders then rushed the man to a local hospital, where his condition remains undisclosed.
No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved.
