Plane collision near St. Pete Pier sends 3 men to hospital
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Three men hospitalized after their private Cherokee plane experienced an engine failure and crashed near the St. Pete Pier Tuesday.
St. Petersburg Fire Rescue told Tampa Bay Times this happened before 11 a.m. when the men, between 25 and 40, were coming from the Albert Whitted Airport trying to flee Florida before the expected Hurricane Milton is expected to make waves throughout the state.
The impact of this wreck caused the plane to come to rest 300 yards from the pier and sank completely. A citizen operating a boat saw what unfolded and immediately came to their rescue, doing what they could to render aid before fire crews and other first responders arrived.
The fourth occupant, also a man between 25 and 40, was not taken to a hospital and it is unclear if he suffered injuries, or a dog, also on board the private plane, was harmed in this crash.
