Civilian driver, JSO deputy fatally run over man in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A male pedestrian succumbed to fatal wounds after he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle Tuesday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told FirstCoast News that the collision happened around 5 a.m. on Arlington Expressway when, for reasons unclear, the pedestrian approached oncoming traffic. The inevitable occurred when the Tahoe vehicle first hit the walker. A short time later, the JSO deputy, who was made aware of the collision by a good Samaritan, was on his way to render aid when he unintentionally hit the pedestrian with his vehicle.
Authorities added that the deputy was on his way to work when the wreck unfolded. JSO made no mention of criminal charges or citations for the civilian driver or the deputy.
Additional information, which includes the victim’s name, shall be provided upon a public release from officials.
