Update: Louisiana woman, 94, dies in van, semi wreck in Davie
DAVIE, FL – Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that it was a 94-year-old woman from Louisiana who perished when the van she traveled in collided with a semi-trailer Tuesday.
New details from WSVN show that the driver of the van had rear-ended the semi-trailer on the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike. The eight other victims from the van, who are all from Louisiana as well, were sent to Broward Health Medical Center and Memorial Regional Hospital, while the truck driver was spared from physical harm.
Florida Highway Patrol and fire crews initially said the youngest victim was a baby but confirmed that the youngest was actually a 2-year-old toddler.
