Alleged DUI driver causes Lee Co. multi-auto wreck that claims 2 lives
LEE COUNTY, FL – An adult and a 3-year-old girl were killed in a three-vehicle crash that was caused by an alleged impaired driver in North Fort Myers Sunday.
Florida Highway Patrol told NBC-2 the collision unfolded when a 22-year-old man operating a Honda Minivan was suspected of driving under the influence when he drove west on Bayshore Road and then collided with a sedan motorist coming to Ixora Drive.
The sedan driver was then rear-ended by a Toyota pickup truck. A sedan passenger — the 3-year-old girl — and the sedan driver were declared dead at the scene.
First responders took the other sedan occupants — an adult passenger and two children, aged 2 and 8 — to a hospital for treatment of serious wounds.
The pickup truck occupants — a driver and passenger — were unharmed.
The 22-year-old man — Pedro Aliseo Alcarez Alvarado — was arrested for DUI manslaughter and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
