Alleged speeding driver dies after car crashes into Naples canal
NAPLES, FL – A 69-year-old man, who was said to have been speeding while driving, had crashed into a canal, resulting in his death Saturday, Wink News reports.
This solo collision happened around 8 p.m. in the Rural Estates community. Florida Highway Patrol, who were among the first responders, said the man was traveling at a high rate on 12th Ave Northeast (near Wilson Boulevard) and had lost control of his car, landing in the water.
It is unclear if fire rescue crews rescued the man or if he was able to get out of the water himself prior to first responders transporting him to a hospital. There, the man, who was initially in critical condition, had succumbed to fatal wounds.
FHP launched an investigation and has not released additional details at this time.
