Baby hospitalized, woman killed in Miami dump truck-pedestrian crash
MIAMI, FL – A dump truck struck a 33-year-old woman pushing a baby in a stroller, resulting in her death and the baby getting sent to a hospital Wednesday.
WSVN said this collision happened in the afternoon near Northeast 22nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard in the Edgewater area when the woman declined to use a crosswalk and was hit. First responders said the woman examined the northbound lanes for on-coming traffic but did not see the dump truck coming her way. As a result, not only did she get struck, but the baby’s stroller got completely totaled.
The woman, who was identified as Jaklin Sabag, succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene. First responders rushed the 8-month-old baby boy to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial, where he is recovering. He is expected to survive.
Officials closed the intersection and reopened it later. They launched an investigation and did not provide additional details.
