Car driver dies in wrong-way wreck on I-95 in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A wrong-way collision involving two sedans and a semi-truck led to one person’s death and another to sustain critical injuries Saturday.
First Coast News said the events unfolded before 4 a.m. when one of the car drivers, a 29-year-old woman, a Jacksonville local, was traveling the wrong way on I-95, going south in the northbound lanes, and was hit head-on by the second sedan driven by a 31-year-old woman.
Once the cars collided, the 29-year-old woman’s car overturned and struck a moving big rig in the center line.
Florida Highway Patrol noted that the 29-year-old woman did not wear a seatbelt and shortly succumbed to fatal wounds. FHP did not specify if the victim was hospitalized. They said the surviving woman attempted to avoid the crash as best as she could, but unfortunately, it still took place.
The truck driver, who appears to have been unharmed, had transported themself to a Nassau County truck weigh station off the interstate.
FHP launched an investigation and has not specified the contributing factors behind this deadly wreck.
