Compensation for Motorcycle Accident Victims
NBC News 6 has unfortunately reported that a young Southwest Florida television reporter perished recently along with an unidentified male in a motorcycle accident near North Port. Jenny Lenzini, who worked for two stations owned by Waterman Broadcasting including NBC affiliate WBBH-TV, was just 26 when she was involved in the fatal crash on a recent Saturday afternoon. She was riding as a passenger when the male driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. The driver died at the scene while the young reporter was airlifted to a local hospital in Sarasota where she later passed away from injuries suffered in the crash. The reporter was a suburban Chicago native who had moved to Florida from Iowa just a few months prior to her untimely death.
The Dangers of Motorcycles
Riding a motorcycle can be a lot of fun, especially here in the Sunshine State where the beautiful weather allows for this to be a year-round activity. However, as the tragic example outlined above indicates, this seemingly innocent activity can lead to dark and tragic results when things go wrong. And unfortunately, while motorcycles are greatly outnumbered on the road by vehicles that have four wheels, motorcycle accidents tend to lead to more serious injuries than car accidents when they occur. As a grim example of this, just under 5,000 motorcycle riders were killed in accidents in 2018 alone. In addition, motorcyclists are 29 times more likely to suffer fatal injuries than car passengers.
What Compensation is the Victim of a Motorcycle Accident Entitled to?
As tragic as a motorcycle accident may be, the good news is that you may be entitled to compensation. The exact amount and nature of what may be recovered is dependent on how your injuries occurred and how serious they are. You may be able to recover for:
- Medical fees
