Cyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Gladeview
MIAMI, FL – A cyclist lost his life when he was struck by a RAM pickup truck driver in Gladeview who fled the scene Saturday morning, NBC Miami reported.
This collision took place on the 7500 block of southbound Northwest 27th Avenue. The cyclist – who was identified as Patrick Wiley – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the hit-and-run driver was 30-year-old Jalil Leyva-Ortega. They said he drove off after striking Wiley and did not render aid or call for help. He stopped driving when he reached his home nearby, where the collision took place.
Officials later located Leyva-Ortega after seeing his truck, which fit the description of the suspect’s vehicle. They arrested him and booked him into the Miami-Dade County jail, where he is held on a $15,000 bond.
Leyva-Ortega’s charges consist of leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death and tampering with physical evidence. It is unclear if Leyva-Ortega has obtained an attorney.
