Driver dies after failing to negotiate curve, hitting power pole
CAPE CORAL, FL – A driver of a red Subaru was speeding and failed to negotiate a curve, which caused him to go over a median and eventually hit a utility pole, leading to his death.
This collision happened after midnight Friday on Nicholas Parkway, NBC-2 said. Prior to colliding with the power pole, the Subaru driver hit a signpost and another vehicle. Eyewitnesses later told authorities that Subaru caught on fire after the motorist struck the utility pole. Another driver was said to have also hit some of the knocked-down power lines.
The Subaru driver, who was only identified as an 18-year-old man, succumbed to fatal injuries. The passenger with him suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities did not list any hospital transportation in their reports.
In addition, the damaged pole led to some power outages, which were restored by crews. All lanes on Nicholas Parkway also reopened.
