Driver fatally hits 23-year-old man in Lakeland
LAKELAND, FL – A 23-year-old man was struck by a black Dodge pickup truck and was then sent to Lakeland Regional Health, where he later died Sunday.
ABC Action News said the events of this crash unfolded around 5 a.m. at the Bartow Road and North Massachusetts Avenue intersection. The motorist was traveling in a northwest direction on Bartow when the pedestrian — Jose Baez Belnier from Lakeland — went in front of his truck, resulting in the collision.
The driver, 53-year-old James Booker from Lakeland, remained at the scene. He was unharmed. It is not immediately clear if he faces charges or citations.
First responders administered CPR to Belnier before taking him to the hospital, where he succumbed to fatal wounds.
