Driver hospitalized after overturned semi strikes Jeep in Tampa
TAMPA, FL – A driver of a semi-truck was said to have been speeding, leading them to crash into a concrete barrier, overturn and then slam into a Jeep Monday.
WTSP said the events unfolded around noon. The truck driver was going north on the I-75 and I-4 connector and the Jeep driver, going west on U.S. Highway 92 just prior to the crash. When the truck driver hit the barrier, that’s when the trailer (which detached from the cab)overturned and then fell on the Jeep.
The aftermath of the wreck indicates significant damage to the front of the Jeep.
The Jeep driver, a 61-year-old woman, is recovering from serious wounds, while the truck driver, a 31-year-old man, appears to have escaped injuries.
Due to the severity of this crash, crews closed the left lane for several hours and then finally reopened all lanes.
