Driver killed in collision with semi-truck on Colonial Blvd. in Ft. Myers
FORT MYERS, FL – A collision between a semi-truck and a car resulted in one fatality and significant traffic disruptions at a busy Fort Myers intersection on Wednesday afternoon, NBC2 reports.
The Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) responded to the crash at Colonial Boulevard and Winkler Avenue around 12:20 p.m. Multiple officers, emergency medical services, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Traffic investigators confirmed the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
As of 2 p.m., all eastbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard remained closed for investigation. Two westbound lanes have reopened to traffic. Police are diverting eastbound traffic south onto Winkler Avenue.
FMPD officials have not provided details on the cause of the crash or any potential injuries to the semi-truck driver.
