Driver of stolen car fatally hits Uber passengers in Hillsborough Co.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Two people died after an Uber Dodge Caravan they were in was hit by a 22-year-old man operating a stolen white Ford Mustang Wednesday.
The events of the collision unfolded when Florida Highway Patrol tried to stop the 22-year-old man, later identified as Leosvany Arias Roman., according to ABC Action News.
Roman had crashed into a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Patrol vehicle and then fled the scene on I-275 South.
As Roman was headed towards the Skyway Bridge, he hit an FHP vehicle. He would proceed to hit that same FHP automobile again when he drove south on the bridge and then pursued a turn.
When the Mustang and FHP cruiser collided, the Mustang then struck the Uber Dodge Caravan. Upon getting hit, the driver — a 33-year-old adult — and passenger — a 52-year-old adult — succumbed to fatal lacerations.
The two Caravan passengers — a 24-year-old and 51-year-old adult — along with Roman were hospitalized for serious wounds. The trooper, a 27-year-old adult, was also sent to an area hospital, but his or her injuries were deemed minor.
Roman’s charges consist of “felony murder, vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing & eluding involving death, driving while license suspended involving death and battery on a law enforcement officer.”
FHP has launched an investigation and closed I-275 South and later reopened it after 6:40 a.m.
