Driver on cell phone causes rear-end, rollover crash on I-275 in Tampa
TAMPA, FL – A 29-year-old man was arrested for driving under influence Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 275 in Tampa, reports ABC Action News.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the the suspect admitted to having been on his cell phone when he crashed his speeding car into the back of another vehicle at around 3:18 a.m.
The impact of the initial collision sent the victim vehicle into the right guardrail before it arrived at a stop in the right shoulder. The suspect’s vehicle, which was pushed to the left, collided with a concrete traffic barrier before rolling onto its driver’s side, coming to rest in the inside lane.
FHP officials have not confirmed whether anyone was seriously injured, but the suspect was taken into custody at the scene after his admission.
