Driver runs red light, causes fatal multi-auto crash in Sarasota
SARASOTA, FL – A driver ran a red light Tuesday in Sarasota, causing a five-vehicle collision that claimed one life and left seven people injured, one critically.
This multi-vehicle collision happened at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Northgate Boulevard on April 23, My Sun Coast reported. The causing driver was initially involved in a crash with another motorist at the intersection, causing the second vehicle to overturn. The first vehicle then proceeded south into the intersection and rolled over, causing its rear to hit the front of a third vehicle, which then hit the front-left of a fourth vehicle. After the driver’s vehicle overturned, it struck the rear of a fifth vehicle.
The passenger inside the rolled-over vehicle succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have only identified the victim as a 71-year-old adult from Bradenton.
At the time of the My Sun Coast report, one person was listed in critical condition, six people were reported seriously injured, and two others had sustained injuries considered minor.
