DUI suspect arrested after high-speed injury collision on Waters Ave
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Authorities responded to a serious injury crash early Monday near northwest Tampa involving a suspected impaired driver, according to WTSP.
The incident took place on a stretch of Waters Avenue, prompting a response by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at about 2:43 a.m.
According to deputies, a 33-year-old man crashed his vehicle into the back of a Dodge Ram truck at a high rate of speed, sending the second vehicle into a nearby tree.
The impact left the driver of the Dodge Ram pinned. After being extricated, the victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital for major injuries to one of their lower legs. Officials said the patient, who was listed in stable condition, is anticipated to make a recovery.
The causing driver, who displayed signs of impairment at the scene, was taken into custody. He faces a charge of DUI with serious bodily injury.
