Emergency response leads to injury rollover crash in Tampa
TAMPA, FL – A Tampa Police officer struck a gray SUV while responding to an emergency call, leading the SUV to overturn and injuring both individuals Tuesday.
The events unraveled before 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of North Tampa Street and West Woodlawn Avenue, according to WTSP. The police officer was responding to a call concerning a man with a stick threatening to harm others. Just as the officer was pulling up to the scene, that is when he collided with the SUV.
An ambulance took the officer and driver to a hospital for minor wounds, and police took the man with a stick, 31-year-old Kamal Johnson, into custody after he allegedly resisted arrest.
Johnson is set to face numerous charges, which include “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest without violence.”
At least 20 patrol cars and other first responders, such as fire crews and medics, arrived at the scene around 2:45 p.m. At 3:20 p.m., they said they started to close the area and, at the time of the reporting, said the scene would reopen around 4:20 p.m.
