Failing tire causes fatal Punta Gorda pickup truck rollover crash
PUNTA GORDA, FL – A crash claimed the life of a 52-year-old man when a left rear tire on a 2005 Ford Ranger came loose, which resulted in a rollover crash.
This fatal wreck happened on I-75 North at mile marker 162 before 11:45 p.m. Monday, Cape Coral Breeze reported. When the tire came undone, the driver – a 61-year-old man – lost control of the truck and drifted off to the right before it overturned.
The 61-year-old man from North Fort Myers sustained minor injuries, while the 52-year-old man, a front seat passenger, was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he later died. In addition, another truck passenger – a 34-year-old woman – suffered serious injuries.
A Florida Highway Patrol preliminary report indicated that the 52-year-old man did not wear his seatbelt, while the 34-year-old woman and 61-year-old man did.
