Female cyclist, 22, fatally hit by deputy SUV in Osprey
OSPREY, FL – A 22-year-old woman riding a bicycle lost her life after she was struck by an on-duty Sarasota County deputy driving an SUV Thursday.
This collision happened before 11:45 p.m. at the U.S. 41 and Bay Street intersection, according to ABC Action News. Florida Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene, confirmed the deputy went on a green light and said the left-front side of the SUV struck the woman.
After arriving, first responders said they took the woman to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she passed away.
Troopers and crews closed all directions of South Tamiami Trail and both west and eastbound lanes of Bay.
