FHP responds to fatal hit-and-run crash on I-95 in north Miami
MIAMI, FL – One person lost their life due to a fiery hit-and-run collision early Saturday on Interstate 95 in north Miami, reports CBS News.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on the southbound lanes just past Northwest 79th Street, prompting an emergency response at around 4:10 a.m.
Officials learned that a dark blue BMW sedan was heading southbound in the outside lane when, for reasons still being investigated, it hit the back of a gold Nissan sedan. The impact sent both vehicles hundreds of feet before they came to a stop in the outer lanes of the interstate.
While responding Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews extinguished the flames, the driver of the Nissan, who was still inside the vehicle when it became engulfed in fire, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities continue to search for the driver of the BMW, who appears to have left the scene on foot.
