HCSO deputy loses life in auto wreck with semi in Thonotosassa
THONOTOSASSA, FL – A Hillsborough County deputy, operating a Ford F-150, lost his life after he crashed into a flatbed semi-truck on U.S. 301 Thursday.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office told WFLA that the deputy, 40-year-old Darell Brown, was leaving his job at the Orient Road Jail when he crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic and then hit the semi-truck.
The driver of the semi attempted to press on their brakes, but the truck jackknifed in the process. The impact caused Brown to succumb to fatal wounds promptly while the semi-driver was unharmed.
After arriving, officials closed both directions of U.S. 301 and reopened the area Thursday afternoon.
HCSO started an investigation and have not released other information.
