Head-on crash in Jacksonville kills one, injures another
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A head-on crash claimed one life and seriously injured another person around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Action News Jax reported.
The collision took place on Old St. Augustine Road when for reasons unclear, a driver of a black Mercedes drove west on the eastbound lanes of St. Augustine and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The impact caused the Mercedes to catch fire, and Jacksonville fire crews extinguished the flames.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is determining if impairment was a contributing factor in Tuesday’s fatal collision.
The Mercedes driver suffered severe injuries, and the Trailblazer driver died at the scene.
No other vehicles and occupants were involved in the crash.
The eastbound portion of Old St. Augustine Road closed but has reopened since.
