Hit-and-run driver fatally strikes 40-year-old man in Little Havana
MIAMI, FL – A 40-year-old man was taken to a hospital where he later died after he was struck by a driver, who fled the scene, while walking in the Little Havana community Tuesday.
This crash took place before 8:45 p.m. at the Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 8th Avenue intersection. NBC-2 said the pedestrian — Tomas Brito — was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he passed away.
Police said that Brito was either jaywalking or walking when he did not have the right of way when he was struck. The driver would not have been cited if they did not flee the scene. However, the motorist will face criminal charges since the accident resulted in death.
Police did locate a vehicle they believed to have been driven by the suspect. It had significant front-end damage as well as damage to the windshield.
