Hit-and-run in Hallandale Beach sends 8-year-old girl to hospital
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – An 8-year-old girl was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital after getting hit by the driver of a black Mercedes who fled the scene.
NBC Miami said the girl was walking on her way to school in the 800th block of Southwest 3rd Street, where she was hit around 7:30 a.m. Exterior home video footage showed the collision happened, with an eyewitness saying that when the car bumper made contact with the girl, the impact sent her into the air. Officials later confirmed she did suffer a broken arm and some cuts.
Police said the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Berdy Lubin, had gotten out of his car to check on the girl before fleeing. They arrested him. As it stands, he’s set to be charged with leaving a crash site that resulted in injuries, driving without insurance or registration, and being a continuous traffic offender.
