Hit-and-run in Jacksonville critically injures man, ends in arrest
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A hit-and-run collision that took place along Edgewood Cemetery on Sunday put a man in critical condition and ended in a woman’s arrest.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) told Action News Jax that it was 57-year-old Carolyn Bacon, a part-time crossing guard for the department, who struck a man with his car around 11 a.m. at Edgewood Avenue North and New Kings Road and then fled the scene.
Upon arrival, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department treated the man prior to EMS sending him to a nearby hospital.
Thanks to eyewitnesses, the JSO was able to get Bacon’s potential license plate number and tag, which led them to her home. After questioning, they were arrested for the hit-and-run that resulted in a serious injury, along with tampering evidence.
Bacon began her work as a crossing guard in March of 2018 and has since resigned after getting arrested.
