Impaired driver crashes into median, cars, palm trees in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, FL – A 55-year-old man operating a gray Ford truck was impaired when he crashed into a median, collided with a sign, and struck two cars and some palm trees Thursday.
NBC-2 said the collision happened in the area of Braman Avenue and Sunset Road. Lee County deputies had confirmed that the driver — Charles Lynn Henderson — had hit the two vehicles without rendering aid and continued on his way. (No one was harmed in the collision.)
Lee County deputies saw Henderson coming down Cortez Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. He almost hit a mailbox before coming to a complete stop. Deputies discovered he had slurred speech and said he refused to take a sobriety test.
Henderson was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail before 12:30 a.m. He will be charged with “driving under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol damage to property or person,” and leaving the “crash scene without giving information for more than $50 (in) damage.”
