Impaired driver rear-ends pickup truck, flees scene in Naples
NAPLES, FL – A 20-year-old man was impaired and was speeding when he rear-ended a red pickup truck on I-75 before fleeing the scene Monday.
NBC-2 said this collision happened before 7:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes at mile marker 112. When Collier County deputies arrived at the scene, they said the red pickup truck was “in the median” while another vehicle (a gray Mazda sedan), also involved in this crash, had blocked the left lane.
The driver of the pickup truck appeared to have been unharmed, while the Mazda motorist was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center for treatment of unspecified wounds.
The hit-and-run suspect, who operated a silver Cadillac, was officially found by 10 p.m. He has been identified as 20-year-old Pascual Velasquez-Reynoso, a Guatemalan resident. Any eyewitness told deputies that Velasquez-Reynoso had drifted in and out of traffic and went up to 120 mph prior to striking the back of the red pickup truck.
First responders did take Velasquez-Reynoso to NCH North for treatment. Troopers noted Velasquez-Reynoso had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and dedicated alcohol on his breath.
Velasquez-Reynoso’s injuries appeared to have been non-life-threatening as he was released and taken to Collier County Jail just before midnight. He’s in custody now. At the time of reporting, he faces the following charges: DUI, DUI and serious injury to another, DUI and property damage, hit-and-run, failing to remain at a crash involving serious bodily injuries, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, operating (a) motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
