Kia driver seriously hurt in Jacksonville crash with Amtrak train
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A man driving a Kia sustained serious injuries after he tried to go around railroad crossarms and struck an Amtrak train Wednesday.
This incident happened around 7 a.m. in the 7200 block of Dunn Avenue, according to First Coast News. The train was going south, while the Kia was going east. The man and his vehicle were dragged a quarter of a mile, leading his car to sustain significant damage, totaling it, as photos show.
The Amtrack was going approximately 78 mph and had ten railcars with 200 passengers on board. No one on the train appears to have sustained any injuries.
The car driver will be cited for a traffic violation since he went around the cross arms. His current condition is unknown.
