Man, 23, loses life in Jacksonville hit-and-run
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 23-year-old man who tried to render aid to a motorist who crashed into a barrier wall lost his life after he was struck by a driver who fled the scene Saturday.
This collision happened around 2 a.m. at the I-10 East and McDuff Avenue intersection, according to Action News Jax. After the other driver, a 31-year-old adult struck the wall, their car overturned. The 23-year-old man, later identified as Gavin Carter by a family member of his, stopped his vehicle on the shoulder. As he walked, he was then hit by a sedan driver who ran away on foot.
Florida Highway Patrol did not comment on the other driver’s physical condition or say if they were taken to a hospital.
Troopers still haven’t found the suspect. Updates will be posted when more information becomes available.
