Man, 35, hurt in 3-vehicle crash, stabbing on Howard Franklin Bridge
TAMPA, FL – A 35-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed by a 38-year-old man after a three-vehicle crash on the Howard Franklin Bridge Tuesday.
Bay News 9 said the collision happened before 9:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes. For reasons unclear, the 35-year-old man was slumped over in his car in the middle of traffic. A 40-year-old man then parked his vehicle when he noticed the slumped-over man.
The 40-year-old man went over to his automobile to get something in order to help the 35-year-old man. Before the 40-year-old man could even help him, the 35-year-old man woke up and then rammed right into the 40-year-old man’s car.
A third vehicle approached, and the 35-year-old man struck that car. The motorist of that car — Patrick Douglas Scruggs, 38 – had allegedly gotten out and stabbed the 35-year-old man with a pocket knife several times.
Scruggs worked for nearly 10 years at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa and at a private firm in Atlanta, Georgia. He was arrested, and police charged him with “aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and burglary of an occupied convenience.”
